The Japanese Language Proficiency Tests were held this past weekend. Of great interest is a leaked question from the listening section of the Level 1 test, which reveals an audio exercise patterned after anime.

The dialogue talks about a captain’s decision to deploy an experimental “Unit 04″ in order to fight a giant monster. An impetuous female character named “Asuka” also appears.

The Japanese Language Proficiency Test is a multiple-choice exam designed to verify a person’s skill level in Japanese. Passing the test results in the taker being “officially certified” as having at least a certain amount of Japanese ability. Four levels are currently given, from 1 to 4, with 1 being the most difficult. There are plans to add additional levels to the test in between 1 and 4, as well as to offer the test more than once a year.
